A benefit concert in support of the World Stage will take place on Saturday, February 22, at 9:00 p.m. featuring Alex Cline's Limitless Light Ensemble performing arrangements of selected music by the late great Shaku Joseph Jarman (with whom Cline played in 2003 in a trio with bassist Henry Grimes). The ensemble consists of Dwight Trible (voice), Phillip Greenlief (alto and tenor saxophones), Pablo Calogero (tenor and soprano saxophones, bass clarinet, alto flute), Miguel Atwood-Ferguson (electric 5-string violin), G.E. Stinson (electric guitar), George Abe (bamboo flutes, percussion), Lisa Mezzacappa (bass), Christopher Garcia (percussion), and Alex Cline (drums, percussion). The ensemble was assembled in order to pay tribute to this great artist, a founding member of both Chicago's A.A.C.M. and its most famous group, the Art Ensemble of Chicago, and his wonderful and meaningful musical legacy. Its memorable maiden voyage took place last summer before a large and appreciative audience at the Hammer Museum as part of its JazzPOP series.
